Meet Dr. Van der Vorst
Dr. Marguerite van der Vorst was raised in Mitchell County and is a graduate of Mitchell High School. Her admiration for the area and desire to serve her community is what ultimately brought her back to the tri-county area to practice. While in high school, she participated in track and field, cross country and soccer. Although she was interested in dentistry ever since she was little, the idea turned into her future aspiration when she had the opportunity to shadow Dr. Taylor Townsend during her senior project.
After high school, Dr. van der Vorst attended UNC-Wilmington where she graduated with honors and a bachelor’s degree in economics. She obtained her Doctorate of Dental Medicine degree from East Carolina’s School of Dental Medicine. It was in dental school where she met her best friend and now husband, Harrison. Dr. van der Vorst served at numerous free dental clinics throughout the state during her years in dental school and found it an integral part of her education. Before graduating, she was chosen by her faculty to be inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dentist Honors Society for her high achievements in dental school. She also received the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Award and the Practicon Community Service Award for her devotion to caring for the underserved population.
In her free time, Dr. van der Vorst enjoys working out, board and card games, cooking, water skiing, and listening to good music. However, her favorite past-time is spending time with her family and friends. She also is an avid traveler and has spent many summers visiting her father’s family in the Netherlands. She is very excited to meet all our patients and to join our wonderful team.
