Cleanings/Periodontal Therapy
Since ordinary brushing and flossing are often not enough, it is recommended that you receive professional dental cleanings every six months. Our friendly and detailed dental hygienists will thoroughly clean and disinfect the mouth, resulting in healthier teeth and gums. Our hygienists will be able to clean in areas that your toothbrush and dental floss will normally miss. Our skilled hygienists will brighten your smile in a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere!
Periodontitis, also called gum disease, is a serious gum infection that damages the soft tissue and, without treatment, can destroy the bone that supports your teeth. Periodontitis can cause teeth to loosen and can lead to tooth loss. Recent research has found that bacteria that are found in periodontal infections can enter the blood stream leading to inflammation throughout the body. Periodontitis is common, but largely preventable. It’s usually the result of poor oral hygiene, but can be made worse by smoking, using chewing tobacco, or having diabetes. Our hygienists are well-equipped to help our patients with Periodontitis by performing a procedure called Scaling and Root Planing (SRP). We also recommend that patients with Periodontitis have professional cleanings and exams 3-4 times per year to help avoid tooth loss.
